ABOUT

Mr. Thompson was born in The Pas, Manitoba but grew up in Vancouver. Prior to his legal career, Mr. Thompson was a self-employed owner/operator with Nickels Cartage, a local trucking company.

A trip to South Africa in 1979 for a family wedding planted a travel bug.  Within a year Mr. Thompson sold his worldly possessions, bought a back pack and tent and an around the world plane ticket.

He visited the Phillipines, Thailand, Australia, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Kenya, Egypt, Israel, Greece, Switzerland, England and finally Bermuda before returning to Vancouver one year later.  During a six week stay in Southern Africa Mr. Thompson decided to revive his childhood dream, and become a lawyer.

Mr. Thompson commenced his university career at Simon Fraser University where he studied Political Science and History, with a focus on the Middle East studies.

Following two years at SFU he completed his degree at the University of Manitoba and went on to study law at Queens University in Kingston, Ontario.

In his third year of law school, Blair and his wife, Kathy, had their first child. After graduating from Queen’s they returned to Vancouver and started another chapter of their lives, articling at Russell Dumoulin in Vancouver.

Blair was called to the Bar in August 1990 and he and Kathy purchased a home in Langley so he could live in the community he served and have more control over work-life balance. Blair and Kathy have been married for over 33 years and have raised four children together.

Outside of law Mr. Thompson has served the Langley community as a volunteer, spending two years as a Board member of the Langley Community Music School and ten years on the Board of the Langley Memorial Hospital Foundation, the last four as Chair.  He was an active volunteer and coach in baseball and hockey when his children were growing up.

Mr. Thompson and Kathy are avid pickelball players, and cherish every minute they can get at their cabin on the Shuswap Lake where Mr. Thompson gets to build things, have big camp fires and wake surf.
